A shocking incident shook the Viennese legal landscape: On February 3, 2025, there was a brutal knife attack in a law firm in Vienna-Landstrasse. A 53-year-old man, who suffers from severe schizophrenia, stabbed a 56-year-old employee and caused her life-threatening injuries. The public prosecutor's office is now applying for the perpetrator to be placed indefinitely in a forensic therapeutic center because he was not sane at the time of the crime, as Die Presse reports.
The hearing at the regional court will take place on Thursday. According to the public prosecutor's office, the indictment refers to the severity of the defendant's mental disorder, which precludes prosecution for attempted murder. Instead, the question is how the man should be dealt with in the future in order to prevent further potential crimes.
Terrible injuries and vulnerable souls
The horrific attack left marks that went far beyond the physical impact on the injured woman, who suffered 16 stab wounds - including to the face, chest and arms. She was immediately treated in hospital after the incident. The man, who had been a client of the law firm since August 2024, wanted 400 euros in cash on the day of the crime, but only received half and returned masked to attack the employee.
