Stowage album at Pentecost: A10 with up to 3 hours of waiting!

Golling, Österreich - June 7, 2025 is a day that many drivers will not be forgotten so quickly. On the Pentecost weekend, one of the most busiest periods of the year, traffic on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) back up to 20 kilometers. According to the ÖAMTC, however, the situation has been relaxed for around 3 p.m. and the waiting times at the tunnel construction site were limited. Nevertheless, the chaos remained overnight and the traffic jam extended from the Knot Salzburg to Walserberg, which led to a long waiting evening for many travelers.

The situation on Saturday morning was particularly tense when a defective vehicle in the Hiefler tunnel further tightened the situation. At seven o'clock, the ÖAMTC jam consultants reported a loss of over three hours on the A10. The construction site at Golling, which is expected to be completed by the end of June, ensures considerable traffic disruptions and leads to increased waiting times. A good reason to plan the trip better!

traffic chaos on various routes

The Tauern Autobahn is not only an important north-south connection, but also a central route for German vacationers on the way to Italy. There are also other overloaded traffic axes on this route: starting with the Suben border crossing, via the A8 to the A1 in Linz and the nodes Steinhäusl and Vösendorf on the A21. Drivers should also expect delays on other important roads:

  • Rheintal Autobahn (A14) Höhe Bludenz
  • Brenner Autobahn (A13), greater Innsbruck
  • area
  • Inntal Autobahn (A12) between Wiesing and Kufstein
  • Fernpass Straße (B179), between Füssen and Nasserith
  • Ost Autobahn (A4), between Vienna and Fischamend
  • eight of the A8 between Munich and Salzburg

Herbert Thaler, the ÖAMTC jam consultant, will be on the Tauern motorway from Saturday to observe the traffic and provide helpful information. A look at the ÖAMTC Prit Prize database could also be helpful to be informed about the costs during the trip. For club members there are even online doctoral talks during the vacation, a real plus for carefree travel.

Staur risk and traffic load

In addition to the immediate construction sites, the general traffic load is also pointed out. During the main travel times, especially on summer weekends, travelers have to expect traffic jams. This phenomenon has been known for years; The second tunnel tube of the Tauern tunnel was therefore released in 2011 for relief. Historically, the planning of the highway began during the Second World War, and the complete release took place in 1983. Since then, the importance of this highway has increased.

In order to get an overview of traffic in figures, the statistical manual "Transport in Numbers" of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport is a valuable document. It not only offers insights into traffic development in Germany and the EU, but has been used by political decision -makers, companies and the transport industry for over 40 years. The current issue for the 2024/2025 vintage is already available and the next one is expected to be available in spring 2026.

For everyone who is traveling on the highway in the next few days, it means: bring patience, plan waiting times and prepare the trip well! Because again at Pentecost it turns out that the streets across Austria are particularly busy. Anyone who is informed in good time has the best chance of bypassing the traffic jams.
