Track work in Vienna: Line 43 diverted until September!

From June 15, 2025, Jörger Straße in Vienna will be the scene of extensive track work by Wiener Linien. These measures not only entail a diversion for tram line 43, but also impact on line 9. Construction work is expected to last until September 2025, meaning commuters and passengers will have to prepare for further changes to the public transport network. As 5min.at reports, line 43 will run as usual between Neuwaldegg and Elterleinplatz, but will be rerouted from Elterleinplatz. The city center will not be directly accessible by line 43 during this time.

Line 9, which only runs between Westbahnhof and Rosensteingasse during this construction phase, is similarly affected. In order to enable passengers to travel to the city center easily, Wiener Linien recommends alternative connections. Line 42 is particularly helpful, as it offers a transfer option between lines 42 and 43 at the Vinzenzgasse stop. This option is ideal for getting to the city center or the U6. In addition, lines 2 and 44 are using additional vehicles to maintain the usual service.

Construction projects throughout Vienna

There is a lot of work going on not only on Jörger Straße, but also at other construction sites. There will be 1,750 meters of track replacement on Hütteldorfer Straße over the course of the year in order to eliminate slow driving areas. These measures began on April 7th and will last until the end of June or beginning of July 2025. Meanwhile, line 49 will be closed, but line 52 will be extended to maintain traffic. According to Wiener Linien, the U3 will serve as an alternative route and cover the route of the now discontinued line 49. Wiener Linien provides further information.

The summer months are also marked by extensive infrastructure modernization. For example, the Vienna S-Bahn between Floridsdorf and Praterstern will be closed between June 28th and September 1st. Another highlight is the partial closure of the U4 between Friedensbrücke and Schottenring, with a replacement E4 tram being set up between Nußdorf and Schottenring. In addition, passengers can use special ÖBB buses for rail replacement services. More information can be found in Presse Wien.

Conclusion

The ongoing renovation work on Vienna's transport network is a strong sign of the modernization and expansion of the infrastructure. Although the diversions and closures cause inconveniences, they are necessary to ultimately improve the quality and efficiency of public transport. Passengers should regularly inform themselves about the changes and use well-developed alternatives to make their journeys in the city as smooth as possible.
