More benches challenged: 83 % of Viennese travelers are dissatisfied!

A word about the situation at Vienna's subway stations: With a consistently positive response of 83 percent, the Viennese clearly signaled that more seating at public traffic stations are desired. This finding comes from an online survey by meinzirk.at in which over 1,100 people have expressed their opinion. The occasion is particularly up to date, since the U4 stop Schönbrunn, an increased point of contact for tourists, had to make time recently without benches.

Especially where travelers wait for a long day in the castle gardens or after a trip to the center, many asked the question of where they could sit down. Older people in particular, as well as families and mobility -limited people suffered from the lack of seating. The Viennese lines announced that these benches were removed for security reasons if a high visit to the visit is to be expected. A fact that was resolved again as soon as possible, because the benches in Schönbrunn have now been set up.

seating and mobility

The statistics show that only 10 percent of those surveyed believe that the number of seating options is sufficient. There are currently around 2,100 waiting houses and around 1,200 additional benches in the Vienna transport network. In the case of new buildings or renovations, the possibility of installing benches is regularly checked, as the Viennese lines say. These decisions also depend heavily on the local conditions.

Another aspect that should not be forgotten in the discussion is the accessibility. A guide, published by the Austrian Research Society Mobility on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Mobility, focuses on the barrier -free design of public transport. This guide, which divides into seven parts, analyzes legal framework conditions, user group requirements and frequent barriers in public transport in order to offer experts to valuable support in design and planning. We at bmimi.gv.at welcome such initiative, because it ensures that all travelers experience more comfort and problems like that at the U4 station do not become everyday life.

The way to the future

The Viennese lines emphasize that both security and the comfort of passengers are top priority. The regular review and adaptation of the seating options is a step in the right direction. But what about accessibility? This is currently being revised by the "Working Group on Barrier Freedom" of the Austrian Scientific Society in order to ensure continuous improvements here.

In a time when the expansion of public transport of increased interest, the Viennese population shows with its voice that additional bankers in the subway stations and at stops are not only comfort, but a need for better public transport. A good step for Vienna's mobility!
