Junges Theater Vienna: New season with over 200 performances starts!
An exciting new chapter for young culture enthusiasts in Vienna is approaching! The Junge Theater Vienna recently announced the plans for the coming season, which is ready to start next Saturday, September 6th, 2025, in Floridsdorf with a colorful program. Over 200 performances await visitors until June 2026, and the best thing about it: the target group is children and young people between the ages of 2 and 22. This innovative project, which was launched in November 2024, primarily aims to create cultural meeting spaces in the outskirts of Vienna, as meinbezirk.at reports.
For the start of the new season, the Junge Theater Vienna has planned some exciting opening ceremonies in various locations. It starts on September 6th at the Kulturrankerzentrum in Floridsdorf (Jedlersdorfer Straße 25) and continues a week later, on September 13th, at Schloss Neubuilding (Otmar-Brix-Gasse 1). Further celebrations will follow in Liesing, Favoriten and Donaustadt on the respective days: September 20th (F23 Cultural Center), September 18th (Girls' Stage at Reumannplatz) and September 26th (Donauzentrum, Wagramer Straße 94).
Cultural access for everyone
The Young Theater’s motto – “Where you grow up, your culture is at home” – reflects the inclusive approach that the initiative takes. In the last few months, five locations were tested as part of a pilot phase, which are now moving into the first official playing season. Stephan Rabl, the director of the Vienna Young Theater, emphasizes the importance of these cultural offerings for the city and its youth. According to presse.wien.gv.at, the first events have already met with a huge response, with around 2,000 visits on the first five days in November 2024.
The opening therefore plays a key role not only in raising awareness of the theater but also in promoting talent. Already popular premieres such as “EAT SLEEP DANCE REPEAT – Rest in Motion”, which will premiere on April 29, 2025, are part of the exciting program. The variety ranges from theater and dance to music and puppet theater, ideal for young Viennese in the outskirts.
Tickets and information
There is great anticipation for the new productions, and tickets can easily be purchased online. Ticket sales run around the clock, and for those who prefer to do it in person, tickets are also available at the box office. Particularly practical: Tickets are available up to 30 minutes before the start of the performance.
Overall, the Young Theater will have a permanent place in Vienna's cultural life with around 40 productions and around 200 performances per year. The continuous use of the venues in the districts of Favoriten, Simmering, Floridsdorf, Donaustadt and Liesing will write local cultural history. Christmas joys won't be neglected either, as the Christmas production “Lisabella and the Magic Christmas Bell” will be the third premiere in the program.
The new offerings are not only a benefit for young people in Vienna, but also show that cultural education knows no boundaries. The initiators of the Young Theater are ready to create exciting theater moments that inspire the audience and encourage them to think!
