Family violence in Vienna: Two husbands temporarily arrested!
In recent days, Vienna has been rocked by two worrying incidents of domestic violence, once again shining a spotlight on the urgency of the issue in society. On November 2, 2025, serious attacks occurred in two different districts of the city, which attracted the police to the scene.
At around 6:30 p.m., a 49-year-old Austrian man was arrested in 1230 Vienna after he was accused of beating his wife in their shared apartment and even threatening to kill her if she continued to speak about the incidents. In a brave act, the 15-year-old daughter informed her mother and thereby confirmed the facts. Although the victim suffered minor injuries, it was still a serious incident that sent a clear message. After consultation with the Vienna public prosecutor's office, the perpetrator was temporarily arrested, but was later released.
Another event occurred just a few hours later, at 9:10 p.m., in 1140 Vienna. This time it was a 47-year-old man with Kosovo-Albanian citizenship who threatened his wife with a knife. The police were able to stop him in a bar near the crime scene and temporarily arrest him; A worrying circumstance was that the suspect was heavily intoxicated at 2.3 per mille. He was also banned from entering or approaching the area and is currently in police custody.
Precautions and offers of help
In both cases, immediate measures were taken to prevent further damage. The issuance of bans on entry and approach as well as temporary bans on weapons for the suspected husbands are part of the efforts to protect the women affected. The Vienna police play a key role in such cases and are therefore also the first point of contact for victims of violence and witnesses. The emergency number 133 ensures quick help in emergency situations.
In addition to the police measures, victims and those affected can also benefit from further assistance and advice. You can contact the Vienna State Criminal Police Office's crime prevention hotline on 0800 216346. Other important contact points are:
