Open day at the ADAC: Experience mobility in Penzing!
On July 14, 2025, the Mobility Test Center in Penzing opened its doors for an exciting open day organized by ADAC. The atmosphere was already lively in the morning when numerous visitors visited the colorful stands and showed their interest in road safety. The entrance was decorated with eye-catching yellow tones, which was entirely in keeping with the ADAC.
Particular attention was paid to the presentation of historical and modern vehicles. Visitors were able to admire a VW T1 bus from 1962 and a VW Beetle. Another highlight was the eye-catching racing car, which particularly appealed to young people. In addition to the historic vehicles, a semi-trailer truck from 1962 offered the opportunity to find out about toll stickers and take a look behind the scenes of traffic safety.
Education and safety in traffic
One of the central topics of the day was road safety, particularly how to properly secure children in cars. Silke Klein, an ADAC expert, emphasized that in Germany only 50% of children are optimally secured in their vehicles. In her presentation, she presented the challenges of proper child safety and provided information about offers such as the ADAC school route guide, which offers parents and teachers practical tips on traffic education. According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, over 27,000 children had accidents in road traffic in Germany in 2023, so education and prevention must have the highest priority. Bmv.de reports that child seats specifically for different age groups are essential to ensure the safety of the little ones.
In order to support the illustration of traffic education, the ADAC also offers digital media and exercise sheets that can be downloaded. These resources are specifically designed for children and young people and contain valuable information about traffic rules and safe behavior on the road. There was also a special area on the topic of “Safety in the Car”, where the correct seat belt technique for children was demonstrated.
Interactive experiences
The event offered visitors numerous interactive experiences. A rollover simulator and demonstrations by the Penzing fire department, which impressively showed how accident victims are rescued from vehicles, were another highlight. There were various attractions, especially for the children, including a bouncy castle and bobby cars, which were a lot of fun. A magician entertained the audience with his tricks, while the ADAC band “Yellow Tones” provided the musical backdrop.
Another concern was the topic of autonomous driving. The visitors had the opportunity to test a marked route with a vehicle from the Technical University of Munich, which aroused great interest. According to the experts, 99% of the technology for autonomous driving is already mature, but the final details for widespread use are still missing. The open day in Penzing was a successful event that not only aroused the curiosity of many people, but also highlighted important road safety issues.
