Vienna's Advent market beats everyone: 74% enjoy the magical atmosphere!
The anticipation of this contemplative time of year is palpable in Vienna, as the Christmas markets are finally open again! According to a current survey by the trade association, three out of four respondents intend to visit at least one Advent or Christmas market, and more than a third plan to visit several markets. HV managing director Rainer Will estimates that the Christmas markets this year are likely to generate a total turnover of around 420 million euros, similar to last year. This is great news for small and medium-sized businesses, which benefit greatly from this seasonal event.
The most popular Christmas market is undoubtedly the one in front of Schönbrunn Castle, followed by the Christmas market on Rathausplatz and the Christmas market on Spittelberg. The unique atmosphere, the enjoyment of punch and mulled wine, and the convivial meeting of friends are the main reasons for the visit, with 74% of survey participants citing the atmosphere as the reason. Generation Z (18 to 28 years old) is particularly interested: 42% of them want to visit several markets. The popularity of these markets could not only strengthen the sense of community, but also help many small traders do a good business.
