NÖM AG invests in the future: fully automated logistics center in Baden!

The future of logistics is being built in Baden near Vienna. The Lower Austrian dairy NÖM AG has commissioned the renowned company Kardex Mlog to build a fully automated shipping warehouse including comprehensive conveyor technology. The groundbreaking ceremony for this ambitious project took place on June 23rd and commissioning is planned for April 2027, as deutscherpresseindex.de reports.

The new logistics center will offer space for up to 26,000 pallets and will be coordinated by Kardex Mlog as general contractor, who will be responsible for the steel rack construction, the cladding of the roof and walls and the delivery of two electric monorail systems. Such modernized infrastructures are necessary to cope with increasing order volumes and increased demands for speed and precision in the supply chain.

Growth and sustainability

NÖM AG, with more than 125 years of experience in milk processing, supplies its customers throughout Europe, especially in Eastern Europe and Northern Italy. Every year, the company processes around 450 million kilograms of milk from over 2,200 farmers, with a product range of around 1,000 items. Currently, over 2,200 pallets are loaded every day, which is reaching the limits of the existing logistics. The new shipping warehouse construction aims to overcome this challenge by saving over 10,000 truck trips per year. This not only creates more capacity, but also has a positive impact on the environment.

NÖM AG is not only an economically stable company with a turnover of 685 million euros, but is also actively involved in social and ecological projects. In this context, optimizing logistics also plays a crucial role. According to Fraunhofer IML, it is essential that logistics companies reduce their CO2 emissions and use resource-saving methods. It becomes clear that annual transport and logistics processes account for a significant proportion of global CO2 emissions.

Innovative approaches in logistics

The logistics sector is facing major challenges. There is considerable potential for improving sustainability, which can be exploited primarily through innovative approaches to reducing packaging material, optimal utilization of warehouses and the implementation of sustainable site conditions. These initiatives are based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations and aim to make a positive contribution to climate protection.

With over 50 years of experience in planning and implementing fully automated intralogistics solutions, Kardex Mlog brings the necessary know-how to successfully implement the project. Together with their 375 employees, they achieved sales of 104 million euros in 2024 and operate in more than 30 countries, solidifying their position as a leading partner in the logistics industry.

The construction of the fully automated warehouse is not only a step into the future for NÖM AG, but also sets a strong example for sustainability and efficiency in the industry. The developments in Baden near Vienna could potentially serve as a model for many other companies in the region.
