The Red Cross is calling for blood donations to secure 15,000 cans before the summer holidays. Actions in Vienna on June 9th, 11th and 14th.

In Vienna, the next few days will be dedicated to blood donation. The Red Cross calls on the population to take action and bring the stock level to at least 15,000 blood units. Federal Rescue Commander Gerry Foitik emphasizes that the need for blood knows no vacation. Especially in the summer, when many people travel, the number of donations drops while demand remains consistently high.
To counteract this, there are several special blood donation campaigns at various locations in Vienna. Before World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, from June 9th to 14th A total of three dates offered:
- 9. Juni: Arena 21 im Museumsquartier von 10 bis 12 Uhr und 13 bis 15 Uhr – mit Musik, Vitamin-Mocktails, Snacks, einer Fotobox und einem Gewinnspiel.
- 11. Juni: Marx-Halle im Bezirk Landstraße von 10 bis 12 Uhr und 13 bis 16 Uhr.
- 14. Juni: Aktion mit dem Blutspendemobil „Karl“ vor dem Westfield Donau Zentrum von 11.30 bis 13.30 Uhr und 14.30 bis 17.30 Uhr.
Why donating blood is important
Blood is an essential emergency medication that cannot be replaced artificially. Every adult has around five liters of blood in their body, and on average a blood supply is needed every 90 seconds. Since blood supplies have a shelf life of only 42 days, regular donations are essential. The need for blood continues during the summer holidays, which makes the calls for donations all the more urgent.
We invite all healthy people between the ages of 18 and 70 to offer their help. In addition to a valid ID, donors only need to bring a little time.
