Dog owners in Mariahilf are afraid of injections and drugs!

More and more residents in Vienna are worried about security in their area, especially in the dog zone on Gumpendorfer Strasse. Alexander P., a resident of the area, saw his 15 -week old Golden Retriever Bailey almost recently kicked in a syringe while walking. "I no longer let Bailey run alone here," he says as he throws what the concern for his dog means. In recent years, the situation in the neighborhood has deteriorated since a drug advisory center has been opened since 2012. Alexander observes injections and blood -smeared swabs in the area, which makes him doubt the safety of his walks.

The uncertainty increases: a few days ago, his wife and son were aggressively mobbed and persecuted in the U6 station in the U6 station. The short way to school, which you usually cover in seven minutes, can no longer be mastered without hesitation. "We no longer feel comfortable in our own quarter," reports Alexander and describes other shocking incidents around the drug residues in front of the supermarket and the sales activities that increase in the side streets.

The role of dog zones

Dog zones are important retreats for dog owners and their four -legged friends in Vienna, as dogs are allowed to romp there without a leash and muzzle. These special areas are often the only possibilities for sufficient exercise for dogs, especially in densely built -up districts. Since 2008 there have been 126 designated dog zones in Vienna, which include more than 897,000 m². However, a large area of 2600 m² on Gumpendorfer Straße is severely affected by the drug problem, such as Wikipedia reported.

The residents, including the ÖVP politician Martina Hammerer from Mariahilf, take the concerns seriously and are committed to changes. It sharply criticizes the city government for the fact that the concerns of the residents are ignored. "We need more security in our parks and playgrounds," demands Hammerer and speaks for measures such as bans on alcohol and protection zones.

Public space and drug use

The problem of drug use in public space is not an isolated case. Studies show that there is an increased risk of injections that have been left behind in areas such as train stations, parks, parks and also near schools. BMWSB emphasizes the urgency to make these places more secure and more attractive. The Minister of Living, Urban Development and Building, Klara Geywitz, emphasizes that drug users must not be excluded and there is a need to create help systems for those affected.

In this context, the Viennese drug coordinator Ewald Lochner announced a "security -strategic summit" with the police to discuss possible measures to improve the situation. The aspect of drug use is increasingly becoming a social topic that affects not only residents but the entire city community.

The concerns of the citizens and those responsible are now under pressure: answers are needed to ensure security for families and the quality of life of the residents.
