Major fire in Nußdorf-Debant: Tyrol warns of Sacred Heart fires!
An alarming major fire at the Rossbacher recycling plant in Nußdorf-Debant is keeping East Tyrol in suspense. The flames were reported to the Tyrol police state control center on June 28, 2025 shortly after 1:25 p.m. Since then, firefighters from several East Tyrolean communities have been deployed to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further. The state of Tyrol is currently speaking clearly and appealing to the population not to light traditional Sacred Heart fires in order not to aggravate the situation, as 5min.at reports.
The deployment of emergency services is significant, with seven fire departments and around 130 people working on site. In addition to the fire brigade operation, the railway has already reacted: traffic between Lienz and Oberdrauburg has been temporarily suspended. ÖBB informs that the rail replacement service is expected to remain in effect until 11:59 p.m.
Measures and safety instructions
The authorities also deliberately switched off the power in the vicinity of the fire. The AT Alert has been expanded to include the municipality of Nikolsdorf and remains active for the municipalities of Nußdorf-Debant, Lienz-Stadt, Iselsberg-Stronach, Lavant, Tristach and Dölsach. The population is urged to close windows, doors and skylights and to deactivate ventilation and air conditioning systems. Staying outdoors should be avoided to minimize safety risks.
These events also shed light on the importance of preventive fire protection measures in recycling plants. These facilities are often exposed to particular risks, which can be mitigated by appropriate fire protection systems such as automatic sprinkler systems and fire suppression systems. Technologies such as extinguishing monitors with a range of up to 65 meters and special fine spray or water mist extinguishing systems play a crucial role in detecting and fighting fires at an early stage, as bvfa.de also notes.
Unlike major fire events, regular maintenance of the systems and systematic inspections are essential. Organized measures and employee training can significantly reduce the risk of fires. The events in East Tyrol show how important it is to be well prepared.
The situation remains tense. The public and local authorities will continue to work closely to implement all safety measures and secure the affected areas. Stay informed and safe!
