Debate in the Vienna City Council: Including of the 2024 invoice ends exciting!
On Monday, June 23, 2025, the members of the Vienna municipal council gather for an important debate on the financial statements for 2024. This meeting, which will continue on Tuesday, June 24, will take place in the municipal council meeting in the Vienna City Hall. The new financial councilor, Barbara Novak from the SPÖ, opens the first day of the meeting with an introductory speech at 9 a.m. This is followed by a general debate that the participants in the central topic: The finances of the city.
The first agenda includes the special debates that concentrate on different departments. Barbara Novak will present the areas of finance, business, work, international and digital things. This is followed by the contributions by Veronica Kaup-Hasler, who focuses on culture and science, as well as city councilor Peter Hacker, who addresses social affairs, health and sport. This constellation promises a lively discussion about the financial situation of the city of Vienna, illuminating the perspectives of various departments.

Tuesday, June 24th, also starts at 9 a.m. and is opened by Ulli Sima (SPÖ), who deals with the topics of urban development, mobility and the Viennese municipal utilities. Subsequently, Vice Mayor Kathrin Gaál will treat the topics of living, residential construction, urban renewal and women. Bettina Emmerling from the Neos will take up the field of education, youth, integration, transparency and markets, followed by City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky, the aspects of climate, environment, democracy and personnel.
The most important thing, however, comes on Tuesday evening: Here the final vote is made about the financial statements as well as the annual financial statements of the city companies and all applications submitted. These decisions are formative for the future financial orientation of Vienna and for the well -being of the citizens: inside.

The session is not only important for the MPs - the public is also cordially invited. A visitor gallery is available for interested citizens: counting cards are available from the city service. Media representatives have to show a press card in order to gain access to the press gallery. For the accreditation, a pre -registration is required at kreditung@ma53.wien.gv.at . In order to be part of the important discussions from home, the session is broadcast live on the urban platform wien.gv.at as well as in the city of Vienna app.
This debate is not only important for the council members; It also forms an important moment of the new legislative period, which started on June 10th. At that time, the city government was elected under the direction of Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). Interestingly, the municipal council also has some new faces: Thomas Reindl (SPÖ), Wolfgang Seidl (FPÖ), Marina Hanke (SPÖ) and Jennifer Kickert (Greens) are the four chairpersons who lead the meetings.
This remains to be seen which directional decisions will be made in the coming days. The debate about the financial statements is not just a mere compulsory exercise, but a crucial step towards designing a sustainable future for Vienna.
