Vienna awakens the summer: holiday games start in the Donaupark!

Summer in Vienna will be colorful, loud and active! All 23 districts of the city have come together to create an exciting holiday play program for children aged 1 to 14. Over 140 events await the little explorers. The kick-off begins with a big launch party in the Donaupark on June 28th and 29th, where numerous hands-on stations and live acts will provide entertainment from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with free admission. Whether trampoline jumping, a wheelchair course or a climbing tower - there is something for everyone here, as meinbezirk.at reports.

The diverse offerings also include special highlights such as the “Hollis Gräzltour” with active bikes and the “Curtain Up in the Park” project, which combines theater, music and circus. But it's not just the little adventurers who get their money's worth; Parents can look forward to a wide range of free and low-cost activities taking place in different parts of the city throughout the summer.

Registration and information

Registration is required for some events. Therefore, those interested should pay close attention to the information about the respective activities in advance. An important part of the program is the event “Wienopolis – Into the Town Hall”, which takes place from August 18th to 22nd. In this highlight, the children design their own city. Information about all events and the option to register are available both online at ferienspiel.at and in the Kinderaktiv app. Printed holiday game passes are distributed in many schools in Vienna.

A current survey by wienxtra.at records families' opinions on the children's activities. Among other things, this asks about the importance of proximity to the event location and the costs of participation. The willingness to use the digital Kinderaktiv app instead of the printed brochure is also up for debate. The organizers want to ensure that all information is available quickly and easily.

Media consumption in focus

Digital media increasingly accompany children and young people in their everyday lives. In order not to ignore this aspect, a supplementary booklet from wienxtra.at offers suggestions for reflecting on your own media consumption. The handout contains exercises that are suitable for both individual completion and group work and help to develop an awareness of media use.

So the start of summer can come! Families can look forward to creative and active weeks that are not only fun, but also offer the opportunity to make new friends and get to know the city from a completely new perspective. Where and how will the next adventure trip begin?
