Schönbrunn Christmas Market: A festival full of innovations and magic!

The magic of Christmas has arrived in Vienna! On November 6, 2025, the popular Christmas market was ceremoniously opened in front of the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace. The first visitors streamed into the courtyard in the morning to enjoy the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the opening ceremony, which took place in the late afternoon, was the music and the illumination of the magnificent Christmas tree.

The magic of the market is enriched this year by some new products. What is particularly striking is the large straw maze, which offers an exciting adventure for young and old. Katrin Edtmeier from Imperial Markets and Klaus Panholzer from the Schönbrunn Group highlighted the special atmosphere of the market and the numerous attractions in their speeches. Edtmeier also presented the new program items, while Pius Strobl from ORF pointed out the cooperation with the Licht ins Dunkel campaign. The proceeds from the sale of children's mugs go to this great initiative.

Festive atmosphere and musical delicacies

The children's choir “Rising Voices” kicked off the opening ceremony musically with a festive Christmas song. Cathedral priest Toni Faber spoke about central values such as compassion and solidarity, which are of great importance, especially in this contemplative time. The illumination of the Christmas tree was the culmination of the celebration and put everyone present in the pre-Christmas mood.

The Christmas market at Schönbrunn Palace is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and invites you to enjoy the contemplative time to the fullest until January 6, 2026. Special opening hours apply on public holidays: on December 24th the market is open until 4 p.m. and from December 25th to January 6th until 7 p.m. Further information can be found on the Christmas market website at weihnachtsmarkt-schoenbrunn.at.

A look at Munich

To coordinate the festive season in Vienna with the most beautiful Christmas markets in the area, it's worth taking a look at Munich. The Christmas markets there have their own unique charm. The famous Christmas market on Marienplatz opens its doors on November 24th and not only enchants with one of the largest nativity scenes in Germany, but also with traditional Bavarian cuisine and a lively program.

The range of different markets on offer is particularly interesting, including the Viktualienmarkt and the Christmas Village in the Residenz, which will attract visitors until the end of the year. An interactive map helps you find the most beautiful spots among the numerous markets, each with their own style and atmosphere.
