Modernized WSC stadium in Dornbach: A new splendor for 22 million!

The Vienna Sports Club has done it: After almost a year of construction, the WSC pitch in Dornbach shines in new splendor. This was recently celebrated with a first test of the new floodlight system, which now shines in full brightness. The comprehensive renovation of the sports field brings a breath of fresh air and creates a modern ambience that delights both players and fans.

Modern stadium for the future

The sports facility has not only changed externally, but its functionality has also expanded enormously. With modern stands equipped with comfortable plastic armchair seating and a canopy on the north side - known as the cemetery stand - the ground now offers more comfort for spectators. The infield was also thoroughly redesigned: around 6,000 m² of new artificial turf and freshly laid natural turf, which should meet the highest standards. The cabin corridors, showers and interview rooms are also equipped with top equipment. Two kiosks and a new toilet facility complete the offering.

Finance and sustainability are very important

With a total investment volume of 22 million euros, approved by the local council, the focus is not only on the modernization but also on the profitability of the stadium. City councilor Peter Hacker emphasized the need to avoid permanent subsidies and to secure the stadium's economic future. The facility complies with UEFA Category 2 and has a capacity of 5,622 spectators for WSC games and 4,645 seats for international events. Particularly noteworthy is the installation of PV systems, which offer an output of around 100,000 kWh and are mounted on the wooden roofs.

Looking into the future

However, the Vienna sports club has even bigger plans. The plan is to build a new stadium, which is scheduled to be completed by 2026. This step is intended to ensure that the new system meets current requirements. However, details about the location and financing are still pending and will likely be presented in the coming months.

A look beyond the city limits shows that the importance of sports spaces is also recognized elsewhere. Initiatives to combat the renovation backlog at sports facilities are an issue not only in Vienna, but nationwide. Many municipalities and clubs are currently faced with the challenge of finding suitable funding programs to give their sports facilities the boost they need. They receive support from numerous institutions that specialize in the promotion, financing and construction of sports facilities.

The renovation of the WSC pitch is an excellent example of how the combination of public financing and privatized initiative can make a significant contribution to promoting popular and competitive sport. In the end, it's not just the new equipment and technology that counts, but also the social responsibility that every sports club bears in its community.
