Cyclist in Vienna-Floridsdorf: Bus runs over foot after fall!
On September 22, 2025, there was an accident in Vienna-Floridsdorf in which a 25-year-old cyclist accidentally fell under a bus. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Dr.-Nekowitsch-Straße when the cyclist tried to overtake a pedestrian and swerved left onto the grass verge. Unfortunately, he slipped on the grass and fell onto the road, where his left foot was caught by the right rear wheel of the bus. Both the cyclist and a ten-year-old child who was sitting on the bus suffered minor injuries and had to undergo a medical examination. No other people involved reported any injuries.
The police have started investigating the exact circumstances of the accident in order to gain clarity about the exact circumstances. Such accidents are a tragic reminder of the dangers that lurk on the road, particularly for cyclists who are often overshadowed by larger road users such as buses and cars.
Accident statistics and infrastructure
Although the accident in Floridsdorf ended lightly, it makes us pause and think about the safety of our cycle paths. Statistics show that 30 percent of injured cyclists were on cycle facilities. There are major differences in cycling infrastructure, especially in rural areas, which further increases the risk. In the city, it is crucial that cyclists and pedestrians can coexist safely without such incidents occurring.
The incident on September 22nd is another impetus to think about the interaction between pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. It is up to all of us to ensure greater safety on the roads - so that everyone can get from A to B unscathed.
