Neighbor attack in Vienna: son intervenes with manslaughter!
On Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2025, the police were called to Ohmgasse in the Floridsdorf district of Vienna. Residents reported a heated argument in which a 44-year-old man was brutally attacked by his 48-year-old neighbor. Initially for no apparent reason, he was pushed, punched and even choked, while his 42-year-old wife, who tried to intervene, was punched in the face. The neighbor, visibly upset, also threatened the couple with a knife, which dramatically escalated the situation.
When the family's 19-year-old son, alarmed by the screams, intervened in the situation, he fetched a blackjack and brass knuckles. He used these weapons to hit the attacker. Shortly afterwards, the 44-year-old also came into play with a baton, but did not actively use it. The energetic son carried out his attacks after the police were already on their way to the crime scene and cleaned several plastic bottles and deposit cans in the stairwell. Even when the officers arrived, the loud argument could still be heard.
Dramatic consequences for everyone involved
The police were quickly able to bring the turbulent situation under control and began questioning those involved separately. The injured – the couple – were taken to the hospital. The neighbor, who was an alcoholic 48-year-old, was anything but confessed and had an alcohol level of 3.28 per mille at the time of the arrest. Such values, as various legal sources indicate, can lead to serious consequences, including imprisonment for such offenses.
What is particularly explosive is that the 48-year-old was not only reported for the assault, but also continued to make rude comments in the presence of police officers. He was banned from entering the building because he also had injuries to his forearm and had to be taken to hospital. This raises questions about the need for intervention and the legal responsibility of those involved, especially given the neighbor's high level of intoxication.
Legal consequences and measures
The son of the family, who was banned from using weapons after this incident, was charged with assault. The seizure of the banned weapons – the blackjack and brass knuckles – by the police highlights the dangers that exist in such escalating situations.
The law requires drastic measures to deal with alcohol - and in particular with violent outbursts under the influence of alcohol. A ruling by the Zweibrücken Higher Regional Court also shows how risky drinking can be when committing bodily harm crimes. Further incidents were documented there that illustrate how significant alcohol levels, such as 1.83 per mille for the perpetrator and 3.7 per mille for the victim, can lead to disastrous consequences. Physical and psychological damage following such attacks is often long-lasting and difficult to process.
In cases like these, it becomes clear how important it is to take preventative measures against drunkenness and violence in order to avoid future incidents and protect those affected.
