Life imprisonment for Slovaks: murder of 91-year-old Viennese woman shocks again!

The verdict was passed in the shadow of a disturbing crime in Vienna-Floridsdorf. A 52-year-old Slovakian was sentenced to life imprisonment at the regional court on June 5, 2025 for the murder of a 91-year-old woman. This shocking crime occurred on the night of September 4, 2024, when the defendant broke into a garden shed to attack the pensioner, who lived alone, killing her horribly and committing sexual violence.

Using a pipe wrench, the perpetrator broke open the door lock of the garden house and broke in. In the bedroom he attacked the sleeping woman, hit her with the tongs and then suffocated her with a pad. According to the forensic report, the woman was brutally tortured for several minutes during her agony. After the crime, the man stole money and jewelry before returning to Slovakia.

A man with a dark past

The defendant is no stranger to the world of violent crime. At the age of 20, he had already killed a man in his homeland and served twelve years in prison for it. After his release, he continued his criminal career in Austria and was sentenced to another 13 years in prison in 2008 for robbing elderly women. During this time he was also noticed for his violent behavior, which further extended his prison term. He was released in Slovakia at the beginning of 2024 and returned to Vienna just a few months later, in September of the same year.

Court deliberations showed that he was consciously waiting for a victim who could be easily overcome. After initially targeting a younger neighbor, he decided to select the 91-year-old woman because of her resistance. The raid was not random but carefully planned; The perpetrator stated in his confession that it was a well-thought-out act.

A judgment with consequences

The judge who ruled on the case highlighted the defendant's particular danger and ordered him to be placed in a forensic therapeutic center. The verdict is final because the perpetrator accepted the sentence and expressed his wish to serve it in Austria. A psychiatric report diagnosed him with antisocial personality disorder, which further underlined his dangerousness.

This case is particularly exceptional given recent violent crime statistics. In 2024, around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in Germany, the highest number since 2007. Violent crimes such as murder and rape account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but have a significant impact on the population's sense of security. Statista reports that in 2023 there has been a sharp increase in violence against emergency workers and other dignitaries, indicating a deep-rooted social problem.

The case of the 91-year-old Viennese woman remains a sad example of the depths of human nature and highlights the dangers that older people are often exposed to in our society.
