Be careful, ÖGK fraud email: This is how you avoid the expensive trap!

Caution is advised! There is currently a fraud attempt going on, which is cleverly disguised as an official message from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). In an email bearing the trustworthy ÖGK logo, recipients are promised a refund of 491.42 euros. In order to receive these funds, those affected should click on a link and confirm their details. But caution is advised here: This is a fraudulent attack that is specifically aimed at stealing personal information and causing damage, as Heute reports.

The message comes with a certain amount of pressure, as the senders warn that refunds can only be requested until September 1, 2025. This urgency is a typical feature of such fraud attempts. The ÖGK has already actively warned about this fake email and calls on all insured persons not to respond to it. Another indication of fraud is the sender address “[email protected]”, which clearly indicates fraudulent activity. Although the emails are professionally designed, they can be identified by the inappropriate sender address.

Phishing emails are trending

But it's not just the ÖGK that has to struggle with phishing emails. Other organizations are also facing similar anonymous attacks. Several people reported emails purporting to be from banks and falsely informing about temporarily restricted accounts. These emails often contain errors in the salutation and are impersonal in their approach, which is another sign of fraud, reported by Ververbraucherzentrale.

It is advisable to simply ignore such emails and move them to the spam folder. If you are unsure, users should go to the official websites of their banks or check the app. Direct links in emails are often a trap.

Stay informed

In order to increase awareness of such fraud attempts, MeinBezirk Tirol offers to be informed via WhatsApp. Here users can keep up to date with breaking news, important announcements and local stories. This way you stay well informed not only about phishing attempts, but also about other events in Tyrol. The warning about scammers shows once again how important it is to be careful about unexpected emails. Stay vigilant and protect your personal information!
