A traffic accident on the Friesacher Bundesstrasse (B317) caused a stir near Neumarkt in Styria today. At 12:50 p.m. there was a collision between a truck and a car, in which three occupants of the car were injured and had to be taken to hospital as a precaution. The 76-year-old driver, a Viennese, was traveling with his daughter and grandson from Neumarkt towards Perchau am Sattel when the accident happened.
The driver's daughter and her son were lucky and were able to get out of the vehicle independently. The truck, driven by a 69-year-old driver from the Völkermarkt district, skidded on the wet road. He collided with the car in the area of road kilometer 8. While the driver was trapped in the driver's seat, the other two occupants were able to escape without any major problems. The Perchau volunteer fire department was alerted and had to free the driver from the vehicle.
Rescue operation and consequences
Rescue workers and a doctor immediately carried out an initial examination at the scene of the accident. All three occupants of the car were taken to Friesach Hospital for further evaluation. Fortunately, the truck driver was uninjured and the damage to the car is significant; he was then towed away. The truck's semi-trailer only had damage to the rear bumper area.
The B317 was only accessible in one lane when the accident was recorded, which led to the risk of traffic jams. The Perchau fire department was on site with two vehicles and seven emergency services to carry out the rescue measures.
