Austrian concrete price 2025: Sustainable architecture enthusiastic!

On June 24, 2025, an important event was celebrated in the Technical Museum of Vienna: the award of the Austrian concrete award. This award is considered the most important for innovative and sustainable building with concrete in Austria. The specialist jury under the direction of Anja Fischer, a respected architect from Vienna, had the difficult task of evaluating the submitted projects. A total of 82 construction projects were submitted, which represents a sudden increase in 57 projects compared to 2023. This shows impressively how highly in the course of sustainable building is now, as OTS reported.

The jury assessed the projects according to strict criteria such as sustainability, functionality, execution performance, circulatory capacity, resource conservation as well as innovation and design. And the result is impressive: concrete convinced in all categories and the excellent buildings are considered to be lighthouse projects for the future of the building with this valuable material. As mentioned Solidbau , the participating projects show the innovative strength of the building material concrete.

The winners in detail

The competition categories included residential construction, educational and administrative construction as well as revitalization. The winning projects are:

  • Wohnbau: Campo Breitenlee (Vienna)-Submitted company: Treberspurg & Partner Architects ZT GmbH and Synn Architects ZT-OG. The client, the ÖVW Austrian People's Housing, used concrete for an energetically effective use and even achieves 100% renewable energy supply.
  • Education and administrative construction: Future Art Lab at the University of Music and Performing Art Vienna- Submission: Pichler and Traupmann Architects ZT GmbH. The project shows how concrete can be used for acoustic properties and interior design.
  • revitalization: Kulturzentrum Mattersburg - Submitted company: Wotfinger Transportbeton Ges.m.b.H. Here a brutalism building from 1976 was respectfully renovated, which underlines the commitment to sustainable practices.
In addition, recognitions were awarded in various categories, for example for the Lendmark in Graz in residential construction and for the elementary and middle school Leopold-Kohr-Straße/Barbara-Prammer-School in Vienna in the field of education and administrative construction. These awards show the construction industry that sustainable construction is not only a duty, but also an opportunity, as different experts, including Planradar , emphasize.

The way of the future

sustainable building is not just a trend, but the foundation for the future of architecture. It requires a rethink in the entire industry, starting with planning and execution. The challenges are large, starting with increasing error costs on the construction, which, according to surveys, make up around 14% of the industry sales, right down to the need to integrate new technologies and materials.

In the future it will be about closing the gap between the expectations of the planners and the reality. In order to achieve both economic and ecological advantages, innovative approaches and sustainable practices must be integrated into everyday construction life. Companies such as Planradar support this process by ensuring efficient project management to secure qualitative standards and minimize costs.

With a view to the next Austrian concrete price, which will be awarded in 2027, it remains to be hoped that even more projects will find their way into the evaluation - and thus give further buoyancy to the sustainable building. Because one thing is clear: there is something!
