Seecarré in the Seestadt: future -oriented living on Lake Asperner!
A lot is happening in the Seestadt Aspern: the new “Seecarré” city district will be built on the northwest bank of the Asperner Lake. The winning projects from the architecture and property developer competitions have now been announced and are exhibited in the art space Aspern Seestadt from June 24th to 28th. The opening of the exhibition is accompanied by prominent representatives such as district leader Ernst Nevrivy and the board of Vienna-3420, Robert Grünis. Sustainable development particularly plays a central role in this. Vice Mayor Kathrin Gaál emphasizes the objective of creating affordable living space for future generations.
What exactly should be created in the "Seecarré"? According to Today a high value is placed on quality and sustainable infrastructure. The Seestadtpromenade is already found, which should give the trees a growth advantage. The district is opened up via line 25 and a traffic -calmed "green string". The projects obtained include innovative approaches such as common rooms, kindergartens and sports.
The winning projects in detail
Here is an overview of the planned construction projects:
- F5 (EGW): "Ring und Perle" - five buildings with common rooms, kindergarten and trade.
- F6 (social building): "Flow + fresh air-oriented living + work"- four structures for living and commercial use.
- f7 (are): "Living on the Anger" - farm with trees and communicative freedom.
- F12 (ÖVW): Mixed residential and commercial building with kindergarten.
- f13 (ÖVW): Four buildings enclose a green courtyard, shaped by the "soul".

The exhibition shows the designs daily from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and runs up to and including June 28th. "SeCarré" is the third funded housing project in the Seestadt, after the "pioneer quarters" and the "Am Seebogen" district.
extensions and infrastructure
The seaside city of Aspern is growing and the demand for infrastructure increases. Planning to extend tram line 25 is in the works, even if the time frame remains indefinite. But tram line 27, which connects the Aspern Nord station with the U2 station, will soon go into operation. The first tracks are already under construction, and the first tram, according to Kurier , 2025 reach the train station.
Despite the positive aspects, there are also reviews. Mario Riemel, a representative of the Vienna Football Association, warns a lack of sports fields for the growing population - now 25,000 people already live in the Seestadt, including many children. However, a survey among the residents shows that 93% are very satisfied with their apartment and the infrastructure.
The Seestadt is an example of sustainable urban development. According to bpb there are many challenges, but interest in environmentally friendly and social solutions is growing. When developing urban areas, the focus will have to be on the focus in the future between today's needs and the living conditions of future generations in order to also offer the residents of tomorrow a good home.
