Two car burglars arrested red-handed in Vienna-Brigittenau!
There was recently an exciting police operation in Vienna-Brigittenau that made the population sit up and take notice. Two men, a 30-year-old and a 31-year-old, were caught red-handed on November 16, 2025 while trying to break into several vehicles in an underground parking garage. An attentive witness observed the two looking into the interior of the vehicle and attempting to open the doors and immediately informed the police. Thanks to his courageous actions, the officers from the Dresdner Straße police station were able to intervene in time and arrest the suspects, reported Vienna.at.
During the identity check of the 30-year-old, whose nationality is currently unclear, and the 31-year-old, an Austrian citizen, the police were able to seize suspected stolen goods that came from at least two vehicles. Both men were reported on suspicion of burglary and transferred to a prison on the orders of the Vienna public prosecutor's office, as 5Min reported.
A worrying trend
These incidents shed light on the current security situation in Vienna. According to the Vienna Crime Index, an increase in crime has been observed after numbers temporarily fell during the Covid period. The city has higher crime rates compared to other European cities such as Munich, Zurich and Stuttgart, which is a cause for concern. As part of these developments, there are also calls for an increased police presence and more security forces on the streets in order to improve citizens' sense of security, as the sicherheitzeitung reports.
Data from Numbeo, one of the largest databases for user-generated statistics, shows that many Viennese are dissatisfied with the rise in crime. The platform, which provides regularly updated information, is used by experts and the media as a valuable tool for assessing the quality of life and security situation. The growing need for safer conditions is palpable, and incidents such as the recent break-in show that there is still work to be done in this regard.
