The new wine bar Die Wachauerin” in Alsergrund impresses with 40 wines!
A breath of fresh air is blowing in Alsergrund because the newly opened wine bar “Die Wachauerin” has opened its doors at Frankhplatz 2. The idea for the wine bar came from Anna Polz, a winemaker's daughter from the Wachau, and was created in close collaboration with winemakers, partners and the family. After a soft opening for invited guests, winemakers and friends of the region, the bar officially celebrated its launch. The focus of the wine bar is on making the wines from the right bank of the Danube better known in Vienna - a mission that not only sounds ambitious but also tempting.
The heart of the “Wachauerin” is an exquisite range of 40 wines that come from six top winemakers, including names like Andreas Eder and Martin Bergkirchner. The monthly “Winmaker of the Month” campaign, in which special wines are served by the glass, provides additional sparkling flair. But it's not just wine lovers who will get their money's worth here, as the menu includes around 50 national and international wines and even includes regional specialties such as apricot juices, chutneys and schnapps.
A feast for the palate in a cozy atmosphere
When hunger strikes, the menu conjures up many a culinary highlight. In addition to the traditional Wachauer Laberl, there are newly interpreted Heurigen dishes such as the Beef Tartar Wachauerin and the Bratl Burger in the Wachauer Laberl. The burrata on pepper and apricot ragout will also offer a real taste experience. For those who like something savory, there are the Blunzn with gram and truffle pearls - a treat that will be remembered!
The ambience of the bar? Colorful and inviting! With pop art interpretations and cozy lighting, “Die Wachauerin” creates the perfect atmosphere to unwind with a glass of wine. Opening times are Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m., with opening on Saturdays during Advent. From 2026, Saturdays will be available exclusively for private celebrations and winemaker events, which many people should be looking forward to.
Accessibility and service
Getting to the wine bar is incredibly easy. From summer 2026, the Frankhplatz U5 station will be right outside the door; the bar can currently be easily reached via the Schottentor U2 station and tram lines D and 40A. If you arrive by car, you will find parking in the Otto Wagner Garage at the National Bank, which is only a three-minute walk away.
The “Wachauerin” is not just a place for wine lovers, but a new meeting place for comfort and enjoyment in Vienna. It combines tradition with fresh ideas and lets us get to know the treasures of the Wachau in a new way. Rumors about their popularity are no coincidence - there really is something going on here!
