Nisselgasse: Remodeling ensures chaos and losses of sales!
Nisselgasse, 1140 Wien, Österreich - In the Penzing district, the redesign of the Nisselgasse ensures excitement and mixed feelings. The goal of these conversion measures, which were carried out in 2023, was to create more green areas and reduce traffic. In principle, what was well thought out brought about some unexpected problems. The sales of the local business suffer considerably. A businessman of the "knife smithy" complained that customers have difficulty doing their business, which led to a decline in sales of up to 30 % since the renovation of the renovation. Similar complaints can be heard from various business owners who criticize the lack of consideration of their needs when planning. The blossoming young trees and flowers in Nisselgasse do the rest to make the alley visually appealing, while the economic advancement of the companies in the area is suffering.
Kurier reports that the redesign should actually be an advantage for everyone, but instead the reference problems are still present.
A central problem are the lack of charging zones and the difficulties in delivery of goods, especially for pharmacies. Due to the tight space, suppliers have a hard time delivering their products, which makes life even more difficult for business owners. The stopping option at the nearby bus stop is currently blocked by a construction site and is only restored after completion. District head and district chief Michaela Schüchner (SPÖ) have already initiated talks to create new charging zones, while at the same time the complaints of residents about the traffic, which is characterized by cars, buses and fire brigade trips, are loud. The police have announced that speed violations have been controlled more strictly because the permitted maximum speed of 20 km/h is often exceeded.
Green ideas for Nisselgasse
The Penzinger Greens have now submitted suggestions for so -called Grätzelladenzones. They believe that this measure could help solve the problem of the lack of delivery options and at the same time relieve traffic in Nisselgasse. At the moment, however, the application for a charging zone for MA 46 for transport organization must also be submitted, which often affects difficulties. Several applications from business owners have been rejected, and the situation looks tense in particular for pharmacies.
District head Schüchner remains optimistic: "I have currently not received any new complaints about the Nisselgasse and encourage the residents to contact us if there is a need for improvement." In the meantime, reports on the problem report that a new traffic evaluation is already being planned, which will be tackled after the completion of the Alt-Penzing traffic concept.
In view of the experiences from other cities and their approaches in the introduction of encounter zones, one could draw from these conclusions. As certain projects in Germany showed with negative or positive consequences, it remains to be hoped that Nisselgasse will ultimately find a solution that meets both the needs of the residents and the resident business. According to further reports of the Research Information Systems , complex measures to improve encounter zones are ultimately decisive in order to increase the quality of life.
