Technisches Museum Wien, Österreich - On June 17, 2025, a special day for all technology and traffic history enthusiasts in Vienna is. The striking red gondola of the Stubach-Weißsee-Bahn has found its new home in the Technische Museum Vienna . After more than 70 years in action, the gondola is now part of the permanent exhibition of the museum and thus becomes a symbol for sustainable infrastructure and the Austrian traffic history.
The Stubach-Weißsee-Bahn was built in 1951 to transport both material and passengers to the reservoirs Tauernmoos and Weißsee in the Stubach Valley. Her last trip took place on August 31, 2023, since then the majority of the rail systems have been dismantled and the areas for a renaturation was provided.
During the handover in the Technical Museum, Peter Aufiter, the general director of the museum, emphasized the importance of the gondola for the history of traffic Austria and emphasized how important it is to preserve such technical monuments for future generations. In addition to the gondola, a special exhibition for the 200th anniversary of the railway will also be opened in autumn 2025.
