Finally! Tram line 49 will run regularly again from Monday after track replacement!

Good news for all passengers on Vienna's tram line 49: From June 30th, the popular line will be running on its usual route again. After three months of intensive track renewal, the time has now come, as oe24 reports. The construction work, which began in April, aimed to significantly increase both the speed and comfort on Hütteldorfer Straße. A total of around 1,800 meters of tracks and overhead lines were replaced, which is particularly beneficial for Penzingen passengers, who can look forward to faster and more punctual connections.

The construction project also brought with it some improvements to the stops. There is now an additional bench at the Johnstrasse stop and the waiting area has been widened to 3.50 meters. The Breitensee stop was also optimized to improve the connection to Ludwig-Zatzka-Park. In addition, a new demand stop is to be created in the reversal loop. These measures show that Wiener Linien has a good handle on the needs of its passengers.

Modernization and expansion in Ludwig-Zatzka-Park

The modernization of the stops is only part of a larger project. The Ludwig Zatzka Park in Penzing will also be expanded and made climate-friendly. 33 new trees and numerous green spaces will be planted on an area of 2,550 m² to provide cooling and a pleasant atmosphere on hot days. A water basin with drinking fountain and water jets will also be installed. In addition, two calisthenics and three fitness machines as well as plenty of seating are planned. According to 5Min, this project is targeted for completion in autumn 2025.

The redesign of the forecourt at the Breitensee S-Bahn station is intended to further enhance this important public transport hub. This shows how important well-thought-out urban and transport planning is for citizens' quality of life and mobility. Sustainable and efficient mobility is not only important for the Viennese, but is the focus of all future planning, as the BMDV emphasizes. The aim is to promote alternative means of transport and new mobility concepts in order to reduce dependence on private cars.

In recent months, lines 46 and 52 have partially taken over sections of line 49 while track construction work was underway. These temporary diversions have allowed passengers to continue to easily get to work and around the city without sacrificing the convenience of public transport. In summary, it can be seen that with this comprehensive track renewal program, Wiener Linien is pursuing not only technical but also social goals that will sustainably improve public life and urban mobility in Vienna.
