Murder in the Vienna Zoo: Secrets and intrigue in the zoo!

On October 9, 2025, things will get exciting on Viennese television because of the twelfth episode of the popular “Vienna crime thriller” with the title“Death in the Zoo”nothing stands in the way anymore. The crime thriller will be broadcast on ARD at 8:15 p.m. In this gripping episode, the two detectives Alex Haller (Philipp Hochmair) and Mia Markovic (Claudia Kottal) investigate in the picturesque Schönbrunn Zoo, which not only impresses with its flora and fauna, but this time also features a mysterious murder case.

The night guard Gustl Klingenberger (Christoph Luser) discovers the body of a tax advisor on Monkey Island, who at first glance seems to be unknown to anyone. Evangelisch.de reports that there are no leads or witnesses, which doesn't make the investigation any easier. However, the suspect in the case fails to prove his innocence, indicating a weakness in the script. As if that wasn't enough, Inspector Peter Lassmann (Michael Edlinger) is also leading another murder case in parallel, which is due to a robbery on a furniture transport.

The complex perpetrator investigation

The murder of tax advisor Brunner seems to be more complex than initially thought. Markovic, who is simultaneously investigating the furniture transport case, finds a connection between the two crimes. The missing Brunner was in a chat with “Apricot”, a person from the Viennese “Furry” scene who is represented by a clique around Markus Böhm (Leo Reisinger). This brutal world plays a crucial role in solving the murder, although the situation is further complicated by the many secrets and relationships within the zoo team.

Haller and his best friend Niko Falk (Andreas Guenther) not only have to solve the murder in the zoo, but also have to deal with the emotional and personal entanglements. Markus Böhm, jealous of the murdered man, has his own problems, while Marlene (Michelle Barthel), who is responsible for the elephants in the zoo, reveals unexpected backgrounds.

Tension until the last minute

A special highlight are the ring-tailed lemurs, which play a central role in solving the case. They give Haller a wristwatch, which leads to an aha moment. The detectives also discover the hidden motivation behind the attack through a melody played on a piano. Finally, the exciting hunt for the perpetrators culminates in a thrilling showdown at the sports airport, where Haller has to save Niko's life.

The visual design of the film, directed by Florian Schilling, is also praised. The ARD media library and The first present this gripping piece of crime art in a feature film that not only entertains, but also keeps the thrill high until the last second. If you miss the first few minutes, you still have the opportunity to watch the replay on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 1:25 a.m.
