Fritz-Imhoff-Park: New measures against drug problems!
In the heart of Mariahilf, the Fritz Imhoff Park is currently causing heated discussions. Residents have repeatedly had to report unpleasant situations in recent months. Addicts in particular hung out right next to the playground, which led many to stay away from the park. Since the decline in visits it has been clear: something has to happen. The district council has responded to this and is now planning comprehensive measures to improve the situation, as meinbezirk.at reports.
Among the planned changes is the construction of a 25 meter long and 2.4 meter high fence. This is the first measure to create spatial distance between the residential buildings and the park. In addition, the pergola will be reduced in size and table/bench combinations near the residential complexes will be removed. Such structural changes are necessary to give residents a better sense of security.
Planned measures and commitment of the authorities
The first steps have already been taken, at a cost of around 10,000 euros for the construction work. Deputy district leader Julia Lessacher (SPÖ) speaks of a comprehensive security concept that does not just include structural measures. This also includes regular cleaning of the park and the use of street workers. Since April, 14 priority actions have already been carried out with police and city departments, and further actions are being planned. Residents can expect an increased police presence, which residents will greatly welcome.
Further initiatives are planned for the coming year. This includes replacing the seating groups with individual chairs and converting asphalt areas into green areas. These measures are intended to help make the park more attractive to the public and ease the concerns of residents who avoid the area. After all, as wien.orf.at emphasizes, returning to a safe and welcoming space is a high priority.
A view of the city park
The city park not only serves as a place to relax, but also contributes to the cultural life of the city. This is where tradition and modern lifestyle come together, making it an indispensable part of Viennese life. Fritz Imhoff Park, on the other hand, is still struggling to achieve this positive perception. The coming measures could be the key to turning the park back into a place that all residents value.
