Young women's attack in Vienna: folding knife and bloody incidents!

in the heart of Vienna, more precisely at the Hofferplatz in Ottakring, there was an incident today that once again puts the problem of violence in relationships in the light. An 18-year-old Viennese threatened her 27-year-old ex-boyfriend with a folding knife and injured him her neck. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. and is not the first of its kind, because the two had already struggled with violence in the past. On April 23, 2025, the man was seriously injured in his apartment in Vienna Margaret with a broken glass and had to be treated by a doctor, which had significant consequences for both sides.

The police reacted immediately and temporarily arrested the woman near the crime scene. In addition to the folding knife, which was ensured, the authority immediately expressed a ban on entering and rising and a temporary ban on weapons against the young woman. However, this denies the allegations and was reported to the first investigations. The incident makes it clear how serious violence remains in relationships and what risks are associated with it.

fight against violence - a social problem

Violence against women remains an issue that cannot be ignored. According to a survey on the subject of "gender -specific violence against women and other forms of interpersonal violence", it can be seen that such attacks often affect women disproportionately. This survey, published by Eurostat and the Federal Chancellery, provides important data and illustrates that victims of violence are often confronted in intimate relationships as well as outside with attacks. Topics such as stalking, sexual harassment or violence in childhood are also part of this terrifying reality.

In view of the high number of cases, the European Commission calls for comprehensive measures to combat gender -related violence as part of its strategy for equality 2020–2025. One of the claims is improved data collection in order to recognize the full extent of the problem and take targeted measures.

Support for those affected

Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig emphasizes the urgency not to tolerate violence against women. Together with the mayor and city councilor Kathrin Gaál, a strong network for women is created in need. They agree that it is time to make a rethinking a rethink to withdraw violence and offer women the support they urgently need in crisis situations.

For everyone who is in a stressful location or know someone who needs help, there are various contact points available in Vienna:

  • Police emergency call: 133
  • Viennese intervention center: 01/585 32 88
  • Men's advice center: 01/603 28 28
  • State Criminal Police Office Vienna, crime prevention: Hotline 0800/216346

The current incidents and the opening of the new women's shelter once again underline that the fight against violence in relationships is a task for society as a whole. In the long term, improvement can only be achieved through joint action.
