Baumannstrasse celebrates with a big street party – fun for everyone!
There will be a lively celebration again on Baumannstrasse behind the Franziskus Spital Landstrasse on Saturday, August 30th. The Grätzllabor invites you to the street festival, which will offer numerous attractions from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. A colorful program awaits visitors – from one Clothes swap meet From a bicycle course to a pottery workshop, there is something for every age group. Live music will provide musical entertainment, while snacks and drinks will be available to add to the festive spirit. In addition, a new Grätzloase will be opened, which invites you to linger with seats, greenery and shade.
The Grätzloase already exists and can be used at any time. Registration is not required for the festival, which makes it easier for visitors to drop by spontaneously. The good news for drivers: Baumannstrasse is a dead end, so traffic is not affected. If you have any questions, you can send an email to baumann.fest@gmx.at.
Culture in the district
Baumannstrasse, named after the explorer Oscar Baumann, has an interesting history. He was known for his colonial expeditions to Africa, which sparked much debate about the naming and its meaning. A corresponding report from 2021 classified the name as a “case requiring discussion”. The current celebrations could also provide an opportunity to have conversations about the history and identity of the district.
