Free training for women in need: support for victims of violence!
In today's world, when many women are faced with difficult living conditions, various organizations are actively supporting them. It is particularly important to train specialists in order to be able to better help affected women in emergencies. The Józsefvárosi Önkormányzat has a free training course announced for social workers. This will take place on November 24, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the VIII district of Budapest and is aimed specifically at women who live in housing need and have experienced family or partner violence.
The four-hour training, led by experts Bércesi Ildikó and Juhász Zsófia from the Budapest Methodical Social Center, covers important topics. These include the specific needs of women in housing need, the connection between trauma, violence and homelessness as well as the signs and types of experiences of violence in homeless services. The aim is to train specialists in trauma-sensitive support approaches.
Support for women affected by violence
The initiative in Budapest follows the model of the federal funding program “Together against violence against women” in Germany, which also pursues extensive measures to combat violence against women.
The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women, also known as the Istanbul Convention, was signed in this country. This obliges politicians to expand effective protection and support services for affected women and their children. According to the BAG Homeless Assistance, special measures are necessary to ensure that women who experience violence also receive the necessary support in homeless assistance. The BAG W recommendations offer concrete steps that should be introduced into the public discourse.
A key issue is improving access to support services for underrepresented groups of women, including women with disabilities and those in rural areas. The goal is clear: closing gaps in the help system and increasing security for those affected. So there is a huge amount of work ahead of us to combat violence against women once and for all and provide support where it is needed most.
