Hundreds of students discover the biodiversity on the Bisamberg!

Floridsdorf, Österreich - The sun seemed to Hell am Bisamberg when over 400 students from Floridsdorf opened an exciting journey of discovery. As part of the “My Nature Floridsdorf Lösshohlweg & dry grass” project, the children explored the impressive biodiversity in this valuable natural area, which extends in the northwest of Vienna and is partly managed by the city of Vienna. With the support of the landscape maintenance association Thermeninine-Wienerwald-Wiener Becken, a total of 24 school classes researched the unique flora and fauna of the region on six mornings.

The children had the opportunity to experience the species -rich meadows of the Bisamberg up close. They discovered numerous plant and animal species such as emerald lizards, wild bees, beetles and butterflies. A special highlight was the status of the environmental purenases, which presented living animals such as blind sneaking and toads. These practical experiences illustrated the young discoverers why it is important to protect and maintain these habitats.

diverse activities and sustainable education

The focus was not just on nature: a class from the commercial academy and the commercial school took the opportunity to get to know each other better when visiting the Bisamberg. Under the guidance of their teachers, Prof. Sabine Wachutka and Prof. Barbara Berger, the students took part in various team exercises such as ball games and storytelling to better get to know their new classmates. These activities not only served for team education, but also prepared the students for the upcoming final exams. When the weather is pleasant, the excursion, the excursion offered an excellent opportunity to have personal conversations and to discuss joint considerations to the thesis.

As part of the education initiative, it was particularly important to develop awareness of biodiversity at an early stage. This includes sensitization to the dependency of all living things and promotes careful use of natural resources. With the support of the educational material for biodiversity, the children learn what significance different habitats and ecosystems have for our ecosystem. The varied nature experience helps the students develop their own skills in order to actively participate in sustainable developments.

a common goal: protection of nature

As part of the project, the students are also actively involved in maintaining the meadows and dry grass by removing invasive species and thus contributing to promoting local biodiversity. The excellent care through the forestry of the city of Vienna shows how important these habitats are for both flora and fauna as well as for the recovery of people.

The project is financed by the city of Vienna and the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for the development of rural areas. The active integration of schools in the preservation of biological diversity will continue to be promoted and the next generation sensitized to environmental protection.

All in all, the trip on the Bisamberg was a complete success, which not only deepened the knowledge of the children about their environment, but also strengthened the community within the classes. This shows once again how important education is outdoors to raise awareness of nature and its preservation. This corresponds to the idea that educational server also pursues by providing resources and materials for biodiversity formation in order to promote interest in nature conservation and ecology.
