Police strike: Robbery series in Vienna-Favorites solved!

In Vienna's 10th district, more specifically in Favoriten, the police have solved a series of robberies that have caused fear among residents in recent months. Careful investigations by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office led to the arrest of a total of 13 young people who are suspected of being involved in several serious robberies. These incidents occurred in September and October 2025 and were primarily committed at Viktor-Adler-Markt, Antonsplatz and Reumannplatz. The suspects, all Syrian citizens between the ages of 14 and 22, were sometimes clearly identified by the victims, which made police work easier.

As Kurier reports, in two particularly sensational cases a victim was attacked twice by the same perpetrators. At Antonsplatz, the victim was attacked with pepper spray and threatened with physical violence in order to take away his valuables. Two days later there was another attack at Reumannplatz. On the orders of the Vienna public prosecutor's office, those arrested were taken to a prison, where they refused to make statements.

Cooperation and challenges between authorities

The difficult situation in Vienna is characterized by an alarming increase in youth crime. According to police statistics, the total number of reports rose by 4.6% to 194,981 in 2024, while juvenile crime has increased particularly worryingly. More than half of the perpetrators (57.1%) came from abroad. These developments were recently discussed by Heute, whereby it was emphasized that the 10 to 14 year old age group in particular contributes heavily to the crimes reported.

Robbery crimes have also increased in recent years; in 2024 the number rose by 18.1% to a total of 1,394 cases. The investigators responded and founded the interdisciplinary “Child and Youth Crime” working group in 2024 to develop targeted prevention measures and counteract future crimes.

Community security strategy

Amid these challenges, collaboration between police, schools and social institutions is essential. The arrests in Favoriten show that the authorities are determined to counteract growing youth crime. Police will continue to work closely with prosecutors to not only hold perpetrators accountable but also take preventative measures.

The situation in Vienna remains tense, but the arrests are a step in the right direction. The will to prevent and protect citizens remains the focus in order to ensure safety on the streets of Favoriten.
