Raid in Vienna: 317 kilos of drugs confiscated – three men arrested!

An impressive blow to the international drug trade was recently recorded in Vienna. In a raid on June 30, the results of which were announced on July 8, police arrested three suspects: a 28-year-old, a 36-year-old and a 52-year-old. These men were caught transferring boxes of addictive drugs into a pickup truck, reports said MyDistrict.

A total of over 317 kilograms of cannabis herb, 10 kilograms of cannabis resin and an impressive 21,940 euros in cash were seized. The police received support from the elite Cobra task force, which is not an everyday occurrence in such operations and underlines the seriousness of the situation.

Major successes against international drug trafficking

But this incident is only part of a much bigger picture. The Vienna police have carried out several actions against cross-border groups of perpetrators in recent months. Particularly noteworthy is another operation in which seven suspected members of such a group were arrested. More than 650,000 euros in cash, 124.5 kilograms of narcotic drugs and even two weapons were seized, according to a report by BVZ is to be read.

These actions took place in Vienna and Lower Austria at the beginning and middle of April 2025. A 52-year-old Ukrainian citizen was arrested in Leopoldstadt on April 2nd. He was under surveillance because of his connections to smuggling trips and regularly transported large amounts of money between Bratislava and Vienna.

International perspective

The current successes of the Vienna police are part of a broader trend UNODC observed. This United Nations organization is dedicated to collecting and analyzing crime data. Their reports provide valuable insight into crime trends worldwide and help countries improve their own strategies to combat drug-related crime.

The latest statistics show that the fight against drug trafficking is high priority and is being addressed in a well-structured manner. Providing policy-relevant information and comprehensive analyzes is intended to help better understand the crime situation and take appropriate action.

Even though the arrests in Vienna send a message, one thing is clear: international drug trafficking remains a challenge and the police will continue to do everything they can to put a stop to this dangerous activity.
