Döbling 2026: No savings, new opportunities for families and the environment!

District leader Daniel Resch (ÖVP) is committed to the positive and responsible development of Döbling in 2026. In a recent interview, he said that the budget for the coming year not only remains consolidated, but will also enable considerable investments in important areas at over 500,000 euros. It was particularly emphasized that there will be no savings in kindergartens, schools and children's playgrounds. “The future of the children is important to us here,” said Resch in an interview MyDistrict.

An exciting highlight will be the construction of a new kindergarten in Bauernfeldgasse, work on which is scheduled to begin in February 2026. Investments in schools are also planned, which include new tables, blackboards and measures to upgrade the schoolyards. In order to promote the connection between students and local companies, the first local career fair for middle schools is also organized. This shows that the focus is on practical education that better prepares young people for professional life.

Focus on social responsibility and quality of life

The deputy district leader Mahboobeh Bayat (SPÖ) emphasized at the district council meeting on December 18, 2025 that the budget also has a clear focus on social responsibility. With a majority vote it was decided to make investments in the areas of families, children, women as well as climate and traffic safety. The aim is to increase the quality of life for all citizens and to create offers for women, for example, in the form of initiatives such as “Döblinger Women's Stories”. This information comes from an article by OTS.

In addition, there will be new measures to improve road safety, an aspect that is becoming increasingly important in today's urbanized world. Increased focus on public spaces and recreational areas meets the needs of the population and creates a lively district.

Traffic calming measures

At the same time, Döbling also faces challenges arising from urbanization pressure and the continued increase in traffic. The cycle path on Krottenbachstrasse is causing some problems in the neighboring residential areas. In order to address these challenges, plans are being made to introduce a 30 km/h zone on Hartäckerstrasse and are examining structural measures to calm traffic, such as speed bumps and traffic islands.

Another explosive topic is the so-called roadrunner scene. An evening parking ban on Heiligenstädter Straße is to be introduced in order to reduce parking pressure and the associated problems. “Traffic calming is a central component of ensuring quality of life,” continues Resch.

Sustainability in focus

Another important concern is climate protection. Resch and Bayat agree: In order to meet the challenges of climate change, sustainable solutions and the promotion of green spaces in urban areas are essential. In this context, experts worldwide emphasize the importance of nature-based solutions to improve the urban climate. Information based on this supports urban development strategies that aim to positively influence the urban climate through resource-saving and low-emission construction methods. BMZ highlights that such measures also improve quality of life and promote biodiversity.

When it comes to future development, Resch has a clear view of the urban development area in Muthgasse. With a positive outlook for the upcoming projects, the district not only wants to improve its image, but also create sustainable, attractive living spaces for all citizens. The desire for Vienna's better sporting performance in the coming year also shows that Döbling wants to develop further in numerous directions.
