Schwarzenegger calls for unity against climate change at AWS 2025

The 9th edition of the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT (AWS) will take place in Vienna on June 3, 2025, with the motto “Unite in Action – Terminate Pollution”. The event, organized by the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, promises a meaningful exchange on climate protection and commitment to the challenges of climate change. President Alexander Van der Bellen will be the patron of this important gathering, where leaders from over 80 countries are expected to discuss the latest solutions and progress on climate change.

In recent decades, the threat of climate-related disasters has become increasingly noticeable. This is evident in topics dedicated to first responders in climate emergencies. The event aims to recognize the courage and innovation of these helpers who are working tirelessly in the fight against the consequences of climate change. The thematic focus includes forest fires, floods and extreme weather events - challenges that are of enormous importance not only globally, but also locally.

Climate change and its effects

Climate change has had devastating effects on our ecosystem since industrialization. The increased release of greenhouse gases has contributed significantly to global warming. Average temperatures on Earth continue to rise, which has a direct impact on nature and society. Natural disasters, such as heavy rainfall and droughts, are just some of the challenges that await us in the coming years. Austria is not spared from these developments either, as can be seen from a federal study.

The expected climatic changes in Austria are alarming. Hot, dry summers with decreasing snow cover and more intense rainfall pose challenges not only to agriculture, but also to people's quality of life. The well-being of plants and animals is also affected, as the spread of heat-loving insect pests increases northwards and native tree species such as spruce come under increasing pressure.

Together towards the future

The AWS organization aims to accelerate solutions and advance progress in climate protection. “Community service and commitment to a sustainable future” are central concerns of this high-profile event. The participants should be inspired to develop innovative strategies to meet the challenges of climate change together. It is important that both policymakers and the general public work together on this issue.

With the upcoming AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT, Vienna will become a meeting point for international dialogue and action in the area of climate protection. The city is showing that it is ready to take an active role in global climate change and to work with other nations to find solutions that meet both global and local needs.
