Medical University of Vienna strengthens cooperation with Banja Luka
On June 30, 2025, the time had come: The Medical University of Vienna and the Medical Faculty of the University of Banja Luka signed a memorandum of understanding that aims more intensive cooperation in the field of academic exchange programs and biomedical research. Rector Markus Müller from MedUni Vienna and Dean Ranko Škrbić from the University of Banja Luka welcomed the opportunity to further deepen their cooperation in the future. The University of Banja Luka is not only the second largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also an important institution in the Republika SRPSKA, which was founded in 1975 and now comprises 16 faculties, including a medical faculty that has existed since 1978
This collaboration is no coincidence. The aim of the agreement is to strengthen international exchange and scientific cooperation, which is particularly important for students. The University of Banja Luka already offers integrated courses in human medicine, dentistry and pharmacy organized according to the Bologna system. The Center for Biomedical Research at the University is well equipped with modern laboratories for molecular biology, pharmacology and microbiology and acts in cooperation with the university clinical center of the Republika SRPSKA as a clinical teaching and research partner.
high -class research in focus
An important aspect of cooperation is the already high number of scientific publications by the University of Banja Luka, which plays a central role in the region's medical research. The increased international orientation is intended to help to further increase medical training and research to an international level. According to biomed-forschung.Meduniwien.ac.at , biomedical research is a global undertaking that really comes into play through the exchange and cooperation between researchers and doctors.
Developments in the international university landscape make such cooperation essential. As medical-fakultaeten.de , there are efforts to reverse international scientific relationships. This political influence could also have far -reaching consequences for the exchange between European and American institutions. Nevertheless, the transatlantic exchange for research and teaching remains of crucial importance.
"We are aware of the challenges that international exchange brings. It is all the more important that we come together with partners like the University of Banja Luka," said Markus Müller. The signed agreement could not only inspire the cooperation between the two universities, but also make a valuable contribution to strengthening medical training in the region.
