Buried alive: Haller's dark secret at the Vienna Central Cemetery
Buried alive: Haller's dark secret at the Vienna Central Cemetery
Zentralfriedhof, Wien, Österreich - On July 10, 2025, the audience awaits: Inside the ARD an exciting crime thriller highlight: The fifth case of the popular series "Blindly determined" is "bustling alive". In this episode, ex-commissioner Alexander Haller, played by Philipp Hochmair, is the focus. The crime thriller addresses complex moral questions of guilt and atonement and shows that old decisions can also improve years later. Haller is not only hit by his past, but also has to face current challenges when a note with a fateful date is found: October 17, 2017.
On this fateful day, Haller lost his fiancee with a bomb attack and also had to fight with the loss of his eyesight. The emotional burden of these experiences can be felt for the protagonist. Haller brings "lively buried" again when his successor Laura Janda, played by Jaschka Lämmert, asks for his help in the investigation. A field of tension is created between the two, since Haller believes in a possible conspiracy while Janda wants to go a different way.
a tricky case
But the investigation lags light on dark abysses: Another death from the past is revealed. Kurt Brandner, a suspect in a sexual offense, committed suicide in custody. Haller is convinced that Brandner was innocent and follows the connection to the current murder. This return to the past demands a lot from Haller - both from himself and his colleagues, including his right hand Nikolai Falk (Andreas Guenther).
The scenario is dark and fascinating at the same time. The central cemetery in Vienna serves as a setting for a dramatic nightly showdown. Director Jano Ben Chaabane, who already staged the first two films in the series, manages to impressively use the ghostly atmosphere of the cemetery. The murderer, represented by Alexander Beyer, has a personal bill with Haller, which further fueled the tension.
a highlight of the crime series
The occupation of the film is impressive: In addition to Hochmair and Lämmert, Patricia Aulitzky plays a decisive role as Sophie Haller, Michael Edlinger as Peter Lassmann, Sophie Stockinger as Melanie and Marie-Christine Friedrich as Sandra Wild. The story is full of turns and moral conflicts that are reminiscent of Fjodor M. Dostojewski's literary heritage. He was known for dealing with topics such as guilt and atonement, which is also reflected in the recent case of Haller. The connection between Haller's experiences and Dostojewski's work becomes clear, since both illuminate the complex facets of human behavior and the consequences of decisions.
"Blindly investigated: lively buried" not only promises exciting entertainment, but also stimulates thinking. The conflict between the past and the present leads the viewers on a captivating journey through personal suffering and moral dilemma. Switch on to not miss this gripping piece of Lower Austrian crime!
