GNTM 2025: Surprising double victory for Daniela and Moritz!

On June 19, 2025, the 20th anniversary season of “Germany’s Next Top Model” (GNTM) ended with a spectacular finale on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. Heidi Klum is once again the center of attention when she chose the two winners of the season: Daniela Djokic (20), a student teacher from Stuttgart, and Moritz Rüdiger (19) from Berlin, who can look forward to generous prize money of 100,000 euros as well as a cover of the German “Harper's Bazaar” with a cover story. In addition, she can expect an exclusive campaign for L’Oréal Paris. According to HNA, the show ended at 11:05 p.m. after six finalists competed for victory.

The stage for the final was impressive: from a total of 200 young models selected at castings in Munich, the best talents competed against each other. In the 24 episodes of the anniversary season, which have been shown on ProSieben and Joyn since February 13, 2025, numerous participants were sorted out. Established formats such as GNTM have shaped the reality TV landscape in Germany in recent years and continue to enjoy unbroken popularity. Reality TV now holds a significant share of the programming of channels such as ProSieben, with a growth in viewership, as Statista reports.

The finalists and their achievements

The final round brought together a colorful mix of talented participants: In addition to Daniela and Moritz, there were also the second-placed Magdalena Milic (21, law student from Vienna) and Pierre Lang (22, banker also from Vienna), as well as the third-placed Jannik Richter (22, dancer from Bad Segeberg) and Zoe Rötzel (19, from Cologne). Numerous eliminations occurred throughout the competition and final episodes. In the 24th episode, which aired immediately before the finale, Eliob and Canel had to leave the show.

The competition in the anniversary relay was exciting because male candidates also competed for the first time. This change is reflected in the use of reality TV, which is constantly evolving. The focus is not only on classic casting shows, but also on innovative formats that include both men and women.

Reality TV is changing

The popularity of reality TV formats is no secret. Statista highlights that in Germany reality shows, especially GNTM, make up a significant share of the total television program. However, these formats are also subject to critical scrutiny as they are often labeled as “trash TV” and can distort reality. Nevertheless, interest remains unbroken: in 2023, an average of around 1.16 million people tuned in to “Let’s Dance”, which illustrates the appeal of such formats. An increasing proportion of reality programs can be observed on both ProSieben and other broadcasters.

The GNTM season once again showed how diverse and exciting the world of models and casting shows can be. It remains to be seen whether the two winners, Daniela and Moritz, will gain a foothold in the fashion industry in the long term. However, experiences like these could be the first step towards a brilliant career.

Other things discussed during the competition included the candidates' challenges and opportunities in an industry that is often considered tough and unpredictable. Maybe we'll see more of the talented finalists in the fashion world soon - they've already proven that they have what it takes.
