Youngest honorary master of poultry farming: Peter’s passion inspires!
61-year-old Peter Wauer, who was recently honored as the youngest honorary champion of Bavarian poultry breeding, lives in the well-kept surroundings of Münchberg. The honor took place as part of the 142nd state conference of the Association of Bavarian Poultry Breeders on June 15, 2025 in Gersthofen. Wauer has over 45 years of experience in poultry farming and is passionate about breeding bantams, pigeons and ducks. This makes him one of the few who hold this title, as there are only ten honorary masters in all of Bavaria. As the Frankenpost reports, Wauer's commitment to poultry farming is almost an addiction.
The fact that not only Peter Wauer was duly recognized is shown by the event itself, where numerous breeders were honored for their achievements. Among them were the breeders Tomas Heeg, Gerald Klarwein and Hannelore Hellenthal, who were honored for their achievements in pedigree poultry breeding. Hellenthal even received the Golden Ring of Honor from the Association of German Poultry Breeders (BDRG) for her many years of service. In addition, several breeders were named Federal Honorary Champions, including Walter Zischler and Johann Kingl, as noted on the Rassegeflug Bayern website.
Celebrations and honors
The day in Gersthofen was not only a celebration for the breeders, but also a place for networking and community. Georg J. Hermann, the new honorary chairman of the VBR, was recognized for his valuable work in purebred poultry breeding. Since 1991, Hermann has held various board positions and, among other things, founded the Poultry Forum. Such initiatives make a significant contribution to promoting breeders and their work.
The 68th Bavarian State Poultry Show will take place in Straubing on October 19th and 20th, 2024 and promises to be another highlight for the scene. Participating breeders can look forward to interesting competitions and a variety of animals on display.
A look into the future of purebred poultry farming
Over the last 50 years, more than 150,000 animals have been exhibited in Bavaria, which demonstrates the lively participation and interest in breeding. So even after a forced break of 1.5 years, the German Modenese's anniversary show took place in the Gäubodenhalle, which featured 847 animals and numerous awards. Breed poultry farming in Bavaria shows that its tradition remains alive and also inspires new breeders. In this context, a giant trophy was also presented to Georg Müller, which was considered 150,000. Number was awarded - an impressive milestone, like that BDRG highlights.
In summary, it shows that Bavarian poultry farming is still an exciting and committed field today, which is characterized by personalities like Peter Wauer and his colleagues. Their passion for breeding and pursuit of quality form the basis for a thriving community that will continue to inspire many breeders and animal lovers in the future.
