Teddy Bear Hospital in Vienna: Hundreds of children explore medicine!
Things are about to get really cuddly in Vienna: the popular teddy bear hospital will open its doors from December 2nd to 4th, 2025. In the chamber for doctors at Weihburggasse 10-12 there will be a very special experience for children between the ages of 4 and 8, which will invite those who are hesitant to have their first encounter with the world of medicine. Hundreds of little patients have already brought their favorite teddy bears, cuddly toys and dolls with them for examination. The devices and simulations are designed to replicate the process of a real hospital visit, from the admission ward to operating rooms and emergency rooms. meduniwien.ac.at reports that the care is provided by the teddy docs, i.e. medical students.
Numerous children and their cuddly companions came to the opening ceremony to get a taste of the medical air. “We want to take away children’s fear of going to the doctor,” emphasizes Johannes Steinhart, President of the Chamber of Physicians in Vienna. The unique event has already become a tradition and is taking place for the 21st time this year. The organizers, the MedUni Vienna, the Austrian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) and the Chamber of Physicians in Vienna, will also be offering exciting knowledge for the little guests in the coming days.
Opening times and registration
The Teddy Bear Hospital opens daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for pre-registered kindergarten and school classes. In the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. all other children are welcome to bring their toys. No registration is necessary for individuals, but bringing slippers or sports shoes is recommended. teddybaerklinik-wien.com also offers information about how interested students who would like to take part in the campaign can take part as Teddy Docs.
The little doctors-to-be only need a white coat and, if available, a stethoscope or a reflex hammer. The more joy and creativity they bring, the better! Before the event, introductory events will be held to prepare the new Teddy Docs for their tasks.
Goal of the initiative
The Teddy Bear Hospital has the clear goal of taking away children's fear of medical contexts. Dentistry is also part of the program, where the little patients can learn in a playful way that a visit to the dentist isn't so bad after all. kurier.at is enthusiastic about this innovative initiative, which not only offers children but also prospective doctors valuable practical experience.
That's what they say: Off to the teddy bear hospital! The coming days promise a lot of fun, enlightenment and, above all, a bunch of cuddly friends.
