On July 17, 2025, a new park was opened in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, which enriches the neighborhood under the name “Auf der Schmelz”. A relaxing retreat has been created on an area of 2,320 square meters, leaving the traces of a former roller sports facility behind. The park offers residents numerous opportunities for active recreation and encounters in nature and was designed with a clear goal: promoting biodiversity and climate-resilient urban development. The new park not only offers enjoyment of nature, but also lots of exercise opportunities. Five calisthenics and fitness machines such as leg presses and rowing machines are available. There are also numerous seating options, including bench-table combinations and a seating area, which allow you to relax and linger. 30 new trees were planted, supplemented by shrubs, grass and perennial beds that frame the entire area. The press mentions that the citizens' suggestions regarding shade, green space and sports opportunities were taken into account during the planning.
A project for the future
The costs for implementing the park are around one million euros. This project is part of the Vienna funding program “Livable Climate Model City”, which provides 20 million euros annually for greening, cooling and unsealing projects. This initiative is not only aimed at preserving urban green spaces, but also focuses on innovative ideas for adapting to climate change.
