Women strengthen women: Integration success in Vienna's neighborhood project

In Vienna, the association “Neighbors” is actively involved in integration work for refugee women. This initiative supports newly arrived women by supporting them with their own migration experience. In this way, the arrival in Austria is facilitated, and support is made in a multilingual and everyday form. On June 3, a press date took place in the association's sewing workshop in the 15th district, which offered many interesting insights into the work on site.

The association employs women who work as social assistants in five different mother tongues. This support usually takes between six and twelve months. A central element of this support is personal contact: the social assistants visit the families in their home and act as role models. In this way, the feeling of belonging is strengthened. In addition, students offer learning aids for children who can be used an average of three hours a week.

experiences from first hand

FIRDE Acar, an experienced social assistant, has supported families since 2013 and has migration experience herself. She is the contact person for numerous topics such as the school system, the healthcare and official paths. An impressive example of her work is a woman who was able to find a kitchen aid after 20 years in the home environment through Acar. This shows how important the integration of women is for society, especially with regard to the current shortage of labor.

The association's sewing workshop, which has been producing upcycling products for eight years, is also particularly remarkable. In 2023, the sewing workshop was able to achieve sales of 136,956 euros. This type of creative work not only gives many women an income, but also a feeling of self -fulfillment.

new projects for empowerment

Another exciting project is already in the starting blocks: The project "Ms..Mightrecht" is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025 and is aimed at women from different communities. The aim is to bring you closer to access to democracy. Five workshops are planned for 75 women who are completed with creative videos for social media. At the final event, Minister of Women Eva-Maria Holzleitner is also expected as a guest of honor.

In addition, the situation of refugee women in Germany must be observed in a comprehensive context, where various projects have been set up to support people in need of protection. These initiatives emphasize the empowerment of women and the importance of knowing their rights. The "Rights for all women" booklet provides multilingual rights about basic rights and is an important tool for many. Don't we all have to understand a little better how we can support women? These approaches should also go to school in Austria, such as Integrationslärungte.de Show.

In summary, it can be said that the association “Neighbors”, with its projects and the committed work, makes a valuable contribution to the integration of refugee women and at the same time plays an important role in society. The coming months will bring many exciting innovations to strengthen women and integrate into the community, because as we know: integration is best together.
