Roland Neuwirth: Viennese song pioneer celebrated with 400 compositions!

A very special musical event is about to take place in Vienna when Roland Neuwirth, an institution in the local music scene, demonstrates his talent. On November 27th he will delight the audience with a special performance in the Museumsquartier, Hall E, at the Bruckner Orchestra Linz's Johann Strauss birthday concert. After the recording was broadcast on December 30th at 7:30 p.m. in the “Ö1 Concert” series, music lovers can enjoy his works for a little longer.

Roland Neuwirth was born on October 31, 1950 in Vienna and grew up in Hernals. His musical talent became apparent early on, which he refined through various training courses, including as a typesetter and music teacher. With his dedication to music and studying guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna from 1973 to 1977, he formed the foundation of his artistic career. The founding of Neuwirth-Schrammeln in 1974, which was later renamed Extremschrammeln, brought him not only success but also many awards, including the Nestroy Ring in 1994 and the Silver Medal of Honor of the City of Vienna in 2002.

Diverse musical influences

Neuwirth's musical work is characterized by a creative connection between Viennese songs, Schrammel music as well as jazz and rock. With an impressive number of 400 song compositions and 18 albums, it quickly becomes clear that Neuwirth has remained true to his passion. His most recent projects include texts for chamber music with the radio.string.quartet and a Viennese version of Schubert's Winterreise. His best-known pieces include “Über’m Bod’n (Walzer)” and “So samma und so bleima”, both on the album “WASS DA TEUFEL”.

But Neuwirth doesn't just remain active musically. The mechanical depth of his work is also reflected in the operettas he composed, including a Schrammel operetta. His involvement in the music school as a teacher also helped him not only shine on stage himself, but also inspired many talented people to find their own musical path.

The role of Roland Corporation

Another exciting aspect of the music world that is connected to Neuwirth is the Roland Corporation. The Japanese manufacturer of electronic musical instruments and software has played a key role in the development of modern musical devices since its founding in Osaka in 1972. Famous products like the TR-808 drum machine and the Jupiter-8 synthesizer have not only revolutionized the music landscape, but have also had a significant impact on digital music-making. Roland's innovative strength is also reflected in the introduction of the MIDI standard, an important basis for the synchronization of electronic instruments.

Roland Corporation celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, underscoring the company's importance in the world of music. With over 2,700 employees worldwide and projects that reach into the creative scene in Vienna, the remarkable networking of tradition and innovation in the music world is evident.

In the current times when many things are changing, Roland Neuwirth remains an integral part of the Viennese music scene. On November 27th, fans can see how he continues to preserve musical traditions while enriching them with new influences. One can rightly say: There is something going on and it is worth being a part of it!
