Neighborhood treasure: 23 creative projects promote togetherness in Vienna!
Something is happening in the area of neighborhood projects in Vienna! At a meeting on June 12, 2025, the Grätzlrat selected 23 creative ideas from four districts of Vienna to strengthen local social cohesion. With a total budget of 12,000 euros, these initiatives will now be financed and implemented until the end of the year. Courier reports that these projects were designed by the residents themselves to make their neighborhoods more lively and connected.
The first districts to benefit from this initiative are Margareten, Penzing, Floridsdorf and Donaustadt. Particularly exciting: Penzing is taking part for the first time this year and is presenting a variety of new ideas, including a bicycle course and a girls' soccer tournament, which took place successfully in July. The weekly activities, such as outdoor reading evenings and international cooking evenings in Margareten, also give hope for an exciting summer and autumn season.
Diverse projects for everyone
The projects are extremely diverse. In Margareten there is, among other things, a crochet club in a retirement home and sewing and craft studios. In Floridsdorf, outdoor karaoke and a workshop on fermenting vegetables are on the program, while the Danube city has calisthenics training and a swap market for children's clothing. The highlight could be the “running dinner” called “Rudi”, which is very popular. OTS highlights, how important these projects are for social coexistence in the neighborhoods and emphasizes the support of Vice Mayor Kathrin Gaál.
“Taking it together” seems to be the motto when you look at the planned events. Plans include stories from the book cell on Laurentiusplatz on September 4th and a children's bike fun course on September 23rd. In addition, a mobile flexi stand is being built in Käthe-Dorsch-Gasse, which will serve as a meeting point for neighborhood activities. Another important aspect of the initiative is the promotion of encounters between generations, led by various reading projects and musical sessions.
The “Neighbouring Treasure” initiative, which was launched by the Urban Renewal Authority since its founding in 2022, impressively shows how residents can actively shape life in their neighborhoods through creatively designed projects. It remains exciting to see how these 23 projects will enrich the neighborhoods in Vienna and perhaps even create new friendships and connections.
