Vienna West II: Camping with new Tiny Houses and climate protection!

A piece of Viennese history is being redesigned: The campsite at Hüttelbergstrasse 80, which is owned by the city of Vienna, has changed a lot over the decades and has recently been extensively modernized. As the Kurier , the space has been used for various purposes over the years. Already after the First World War, the area served as a recreation center for children before it became the compulsory school of the municipality of Vienna in the second republic.

In 1967 the conversion to the campsite began to build Kabanen for the Vienna Verkehrsverein. From 1968 the square was not only a popular place for tent lovers, but also offered snacks and refreshments via a sales kiosk and an espresso. In 1971 the square was officially named as "Vienna West II campsite". Another milestone was the lease takeover by the Wigast in December 1984, which was continued in 2003 by Verkehrsbüro AG. But how is it going now?

New shine for the campsite

Currently the campsite has been closed for 14 months since October 2023 to make room for a redesign. The costs for the renovations amount to around five million euros. Not only are climate -friendly measures implemented, but also five “Tiny Houses” are built, which will expand the offer. The place will continue to be operated by the traffic office.

It is particularly interesting that the second campsite in the Danube city is larger with 180 parking spaces and attracts a younger audience. Cyclists who are on the Danube Cycle Path in particular are happy to come here. It should be a popular starting point for adventurous guests.

meals and equipment

The food on the square leaves nothing to be desired. A restaurant and a snack are available that are open from March to October. Camper can also have rolls delivered on site, and a grocery store ensures the necessary purchases. The guests like this: The meals are evaluated with 4.3 out of 5 points, such as the page Camping.info holds.

In addition, gas bottles can be exchanged at a distance of only 0.1 km, and tables and benches can also be borrowed on site. The campsite seems to be well prepared for the upcoming season.

We can be excited to see how the campsite on Hüttelbergstrasse will develop and which new offers will be available in the future. A good part of our city history is revived, and this is certainly a reason for joy for all Viennese.
