Neos presents a new team for Vienna's future in the local council!

In a solemn setting, the new Vienna municipal council and state parliament in the town hall constituted itself today, on June 10, 2025. The NEOS presented their fresh team for the upcoming legislative period. Selma Arapović was elected club chairwoman, she is supported by Markus Ornig and Stefan Gara as deputy. Philipp Blass took on the role of the club director. The NEOs were able to achieve 10 % of the votes in the Vienna election, which results in a gratifying increase in the town hall club. Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling and six MPs from the last period also remain represented in the local council and state parliament.

New in the Neos Rathausklub are Jing Hu, Maria in the Maur-Koenne, Lukas Burian and Arabel Bernecker-Thiel. Jing HU, as a trained pharmacist and restaurateur, is the first neos candidate to move into the local council with a basic mandate. Maria in the Maur-Koenne brings her experience as a lawyer in family and inheritance counseling, while Lukas Burian, who works as a channel manager in the digitization program of the ÖGK, is passionate about the rainbow community. Arabel Bernecker-Thiel, political scientist with a focus on migration policy, is also an enrichment for the team.

The constituent session took place parallel to the engagement of 100 municipal councilors and the election of city councilors. Mayor Michael Ludwig from the SPÖ spoke in his government declaration of a stable red-pink coalition that remains close to the old line-up. Investments in digitization, technology and artificial intelligence are planned to establish Vienna as a "economic engine in Austria". The execution of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is also sought. In terms of climate goals, the city has decided to become climate -neutral by 2040. Numerous measures are associated with this: the expansion of photovoltaic systems, the creation of 400,000 square meters of new parking and green areas and the expansion of the urban cycle paths go hand in hand with a desired Viennese integration code.

A great focus is also on education, improving the childcare offers in kindergartens and targeted language support for children with language support. The measures are intended to make it easier to get into elementary pedagogy. The modernization of the hospital infrastructure and the expansion of regional health centers are also on the agenda of the new government.

The NEOS and the SPÖ are in a strong position and are optimistic that the next five years will bring both economically and socially positive development for the city. "We have the feeling that we will have a good knack," said Selma Arapović when presenting the new challenges and topics.
