New NEOS district club Meidling: change and transparency for everyone!
Something is happening in Meidling! The new NEOS district club under the leadership of Christian Volkmann has been formed with big goals. As club chairman, he attaches particular importance to politics that are visible, approachable, honest and modern. “For me, politics begins with an open ear and the will to change,” explains Volkmann. By providing regular insights into his everyday political life on Instagram (@christian.volki.volkmann), he wants to involve citizens closely in his work and meets them on an equal footing at district council meetings and initiatives for more transparency.
The motto of the new club? “Creating opportunities for the Meidling district”. Volkmann appeals to everyone in Meidling to share their ideas for improving the district and to actively get in touch. He would like to promote an open culture of discussion that also includes constructive cooperation with other parties.
Initiatives and topics
A central goal of NEOS in Meidling is to create a cycling infrastructure and promote culture. Johanna, who has been active at NEOS for over a decade, not only brings her commitment but also valuable experience from district politics. “We want to make politics accessible to a larger group of Viennese,” she emphasizes. The networking work that she has been doing since 2020 is already showing initial success.
Important projects that NEOS politicians are working on include:
- Kulturfokus: Benennung des Maria Lassnig Parks, Rückkehr des Medien-Kunstwerks „Einen Augenblick Zeit“, sowie die Entwicklung eines digitalen Kulturkalenders.
- Bauausschuss: Neugestaltung des Zentaplatzes und Überarbeitung des „Masterplan Gehen Margareten“.
- Radfokus: Initiativen wie die Lastenrad-Initiative und den Ausbau eines kindgerechten Radwegenetzes.
The new buildings and transport infrastructure in Meidling must meet the needs of the population. Therefore, a change day will take place on July 9, 2025 under the auspices of NEOS to present many new developments and ideas. Volkmann is convinced that such projects will sustainably increase the quality of life in the district.
Voters and challenges
In the last district council elections in 2025, the SPÖ recorded the most votes in Meidling with 39.1%, followed by the ÖVP and the Greens. These results make it clear that it will be a major challenge for NEOS to overtake these established parties and convince voters of its own concept. But the district club wants to break new ground with a clear strategy that includes both the improvement of the cycling infrastructure and cultural developments.
Cooperation with citizens is the top priority. “We have a good knack for creative solutions that really make a difference,” concludes Johanna, while Volkmann is determined to put all of this into practice. The NEOS in Meidling are ready to get actively involved in district politics and to rely on this interaction with the population.
